一般情況而言，漏電斷路器又名漏電開關，它可以分為兩大類,一類是漏電保護功能和過電流保護功能相結合的產品,而另一類則是僅有漏電保護功能的產品。這兩種在實際中都有其特定的用途。

前者在其設計制造過程中考慮的較為全 面，它考慮了短路保護,具有高分斷能力,能夠分斷短路電流,而且在線路中發生漏電的情況下,也能夠正常的切斷電源從而起到保護的作用。

The former is more comprehensive in its design and manufacturing process, it considers the short-circuit protection, has high breaking capacity, can break the short-circuit current, and in the case of leakage in the line, it can also cut off the power supply normally, so as to play the role of protection.

塑殼熔斷器它適用于作支路的保護開關。而后者則只能在線路產生漏電時切斷其正常的負荷電流,其本身并沒有過電流保護功能,因此也就通常用來與與熔斷器配合使用,用熔斷器來切斷短路電流。

Moulded case fuse is suitable for protection switch of branch circuit. The latter can only cut off the normal load current when the line has leakage, and it has no over-current protection function, so it is usually used with fuse to cut off the short-circuit current.

倘若我們使用的斷路器是后者，且沒有加裝熔斷器,那么在線路發生短路時的漏電開關就不能分斷,電器設備也就會被燒毀。所以一般情況下專家建議的選擇是，要么是前一種漏電斷路器，要么就選擇后者，外加熔斷器。

If the circuit breaker we use is the latter, and there is no fuse, then the leakage switch can not be disconnected when the line is short circuited, and the electrical equipment will be burned. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the choice recommended by experts is either the former type of residual current circuit breaker or the latter, plus fuse.
